Glass production and trade during antiquity and the Middle Ages
The collection of glass artefacts at sites investigated by the Institute brought about the need to process glass finds. Mala Luka on the Krk island is probably the site of a late antique glass workshop that allowed the definition of certain local products in the Croatian Littoral region.
The site of St. Blek near Tar yielded a chronologically well-defined layer with a complete range of glass vessels of 14th century date. Since the analysis of mediaeval glass has been carried out only by sites, our aim is to put forward a synthesis on mediaeval glass in Croatia based on the Institute's research (St. Blek, Ilok) and published glass objects.
