The conference topic covers archaeological, historical and interdisciplinary research of the early medieval period, in particular the 10th century and territory of Central and Southeastern Europe. Croatian Kingdom in the 10th century was marked by developed pre-Romanesque architecture and sculpture, prosperous cities and church organisation and institutions. There were, however, continuous earlier traditions like row-grave cemeteries and jewellery forms. During the 10th century different political and other changes occured elsewhere in Europe. The strong Slavic states like Bohemia and Poland were established, as well as Hungary and Ottonian Empire. Byzantium was very important influential sphere. The time of Constantine VII Porphyrogennetos has been known as a Renaissance of culture and art. In building, artistic forms and everyday life numerous material testimonies were created that are interesting in the context of Old Croatian monuments and archaeological findings.
The conference is aimed at archaeological material and historical context of the 10th century in Croatia and other parts of Europe with a goal to develop existing knowledge and promote new research. The conference also includes communications on early medieval period in general.
The official languages of the conference are Croatian and English. We kindly ask interested presenters to submit the title and abstract of their presentations (up to one page of text) until 1 July 2025 to the e- mail addresses of the Organizing Committee members:
