The Library of the Institute of Archaeology
The Library of the Institute of Archaeology is a special library that has existed since 1961 and was formally established in 2025. It is semi-open in type and intended primarily to meet the needs of the scientific and research work of the Institute’s staff and collaborators. As an independent organizational unit, the Library acquires, catalogues, preserves, and provides access to materials in the fields of the humanities and social sciences, with an emphasis on archaeology. The library holdings consist of literature in the fields of national and general archaeology, history, art history, ethnology, architecture, and related disciplines. The Library stores monographs, conference proceedings, exhibition catalogues, reference materials, doctoral dissertations, master’s theses, offprints, and serial publications. The library collection is composed of four sub-collections: the book collection, the periodicals collection, the rare books collection, and the reference collection. An important part of the holdings also includes the professional libraries from the legacies of distinguished scholars, such as the library of Mate Suić, as well as offprints and exhibition catalogues from the legacy of Cvito Fisković. The Library of the Institute of Archaeology regularly maintains an exchange of publications with several hundred related institutions in Croatia and abroad.
