Pio Domines Peter graduated in 2023 from the Department of Archaeology at the University of Zadar with a thesis entitled Archaeology of Salt in the Prehistory of the Velebit Area. During his studies, he developed a strong interest in landscape archaeology, island archaeology, and the archaeology of salt, within which he led several student research projects. He is the recipient of two Rector’s Awards, as well as several departmental commendations for academic excellence and extracurricular activities.
After completing his studies, he spent several years working at Arheolog d.o.o., where he gained extensive practical experience in archaeological excavations in Croatia and abroad, collaborating with numerous scientific and professional institutions. He has published scientific and professional papers and has presented his research at international scientific conferences. His work regularly employs interdisciplinary approaches, including GIS analysis, photogrammetry, and remote sensing, and he is actively involved in public outreach and the popularisation of archaeology through lectures and workshops.
Since 2025, he has been employed at the Institute of Archaeology as a assistant on the Croatian Science Foundation project Transforming the Adriatic Cosmos: Insularity, Connectivity, and Glocal Identities of Pre-Roman Dalmatia – AdriaCos (UIP-2020-02-2419), led by Dr Marina Ugarković. Within the framework of the project, he enrolled in the PhD programme Archaeology of the Eastern Adriatic at the University of Zadar. His doctoral research focuses on the analysis of amphorae from Pharos (modern Stari Grad, Hvar) and Epetion (modern Stobreč). Through amphorae as key economic indicators, he investigates trade networks, consumption patterns, modes of local and regional exchange, and the dynamics of glocal interactions in the central Dalmatian area.
