The dynamics of development of Bronze Age settlements

Archaeological investigations carried out in the recent years as part of the systematic and major infrastructure works in northern Croatia resulted in a comprehensive set of archaeologically significant data about the habitation patterns in this area. Scholars use the results of such investigations to study patterns of selection of positions for organizing settlements, as well as indicators of organization of architectural nature. Researchers compare these results with sites that are spatially and culturally close, taking into consideration the impact of ecological, cultural and economical conditions on these choices. Special attention is dedicated to settlement hierarchy, urban planning and internal organization of settlements, fortified and defence systems, structure of production, interaction of settlements and accompanying cemeteries, as well as the associated rituals.
