The Library of the Institute of Archaeology was founded in 1969 as a special library. It mainly serves the needs of the research work of the Institute of Archaeology and its associates, so that the holdings of the Library consist of literature from the fields of national archaeology, general archaeology, history, history of art, architecture. The Library stores and makes available the following collections: monographs, proceedings, exhibition catalogues, reference works, doctoral dissertations, master theses, offprints, serials.

The Library is used by associates, students, professors, graduate students and independent researchers. The Library holdings are systematically increasing through exchange, purchase, donations and bequests.

The Library holdings consist of:

  • 1) MONOGRAPHIC PUBLICATIONS – printed publications (books, monographs, proceedings, exhibition catalogues), locally available electronic materials, monographic series, a total of 4500 units
  • 2) SERIAL PUBLICATIONS – journals, yearbooks, a total of 511 titles (185 Croatian and 326 foreign titles); a total of 4900 copies

A part of the Library holdings consist of specialized collections bequeathed by distinguished scholars:

  • Mate Suić’s library
  • Cvito Fisković’s offprints and exhibition catalogues

The Library of the Institute of Archaeology has an established exchange of publications (journals and books) with around a hundred similar institutions in Croatia and three hundred foreign ones.
